Arturia KeyStep 37 mk2
A modern classic, reimagined.
The KeyStep 37 mk2 is a compact yet powerful sequencer and MIDI controller that serves both as a creative idea generator and the central control hub of your setup. Whether you're working with analog synthesizers, Eurorack modules, or software instruments, its versatile connectivity ensures seamless integration into any environment. Despite its size, the 37-note mini keyboard with aftertouch delivers an expressive playing experience, while its generative features open up endless creative possibilities—both in the studio and on stage.
At the core of the KeyStep 37 mk2 is its unique sequencer–arpeggiator engine, where functions are designed to work together intuitively. The 8-note polyphonic step sequencer and 16 arpeggiator modes interact seamlessly: anything you play as an arpeggio can instantly be captured as a sequence and further refined. With the pattern chaining feature, you can build complete song structures from your ideas. Two touch strips positioned next to the keyboard provide hands-on control over pitch bend and modulation.
The Mutate function introduces a powerful layer of creativity, allowing you to reinterpret recorded melodies and phrases in real time with a single press. Add variations with octave shifts, timing changes, rests, or overdubs, and let controlled randomness shape your sound. The Spice & Dice feature takes this even further, enabling generative experimentation through random musical variations, while also allowing automation of bend and modulation messages. All of this is accessible directly from the front panel—no menu diving required—making it ideal for live performance and improvisation.
Four dedicated encoders provide intuitive control over key parameters of the arpeggiator, sequencer, and Mutate functions. These can be freely assigned to MIDI CC messages or CV/Gate outputs, ensuring smooth integration with both software and hardware setups.
Chord mode offers 12 different voicing options, allowing you to shape chords with detailed control over dynamics and articulation—almost as if they were performed by a live musician. Scale mode simplifies improvisation by mapping every key you play to the selected scale, ensuring musical coherence at all times.
Connectivity is equally impressive: USB-C, DIN MIDI and Sync I/O, a sustain pedal input, and four CV outputs (Pitch, Gate, Mod1, Mod2) provide extensive control possibilities. The Mod2 output can be configured to send velocity, aftertouch, or modulation data, adding an extra layer of expressiveness to your external gear.
